Raymond speaks to MPs at Westminster

Over the seven years we have been supporting Raymond, he has shown great interest in current affairs and particularly likes getting out to see what is happening in the world. Like many people who draw on support, Raymond is interested in how decisions are being made about social care and the impact it will have on his life.
In line with our priorities to ensure that people’s voices are heard in governance and decision making, throughout the past year we have continued to support people and their families to take part in local and national governance discussions with MPs and decision makers to find out about proposed changes and reform in social care.
This work has led to Raymond being amongst over 100 people who were invited to a recent all-party parliamentary group event held at Westminster which gave him, and others, the opportunity to ask questions and share his experiences and challenges ahead of the Casey Commission on Adult Social Care.
He said “I wanted to hear MPs talk about what they are going to do next and explain what is happening”.
Questions and issues that Raymond and others raised, will be fed back to the Casey Commission and reflected in the report which is expected in 2028. Raymond said he was surprised that this was going to take so long.
Raymond had felt it was important to dress in his suit for the occasion and was delighted when some of the participants thought he was an MP. He thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially having his photograph taken next to the podium at Portcullis House.
