The Crescent

On 1 December, our Chief Executive Aisling Duffy, along with Lambeth Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care Cllr Lucy Caldicott and Deputy Cabinet member for Disabilities Cllr Tina Valcarcel and partners from Rathbone visited The Crescent in Coburg Crescent, Streatham.

The Crescent is a new learning disability resource centre in Lambeth, launching in early 2022, providing a new home for the Lambeth Walk day services as well as supported living flats, short-term accommodation, respite services, a friendly café and community space.

Aisling Duffy said:

“We are delighted to be part of this innovative partnership offering bespoke accommodation and high quality support for Lambeth residents with learning disabilities. This project demonstrates what is possible when statutory and third sector partners work together and put people with learning disabilities and their families at the very heart of the design process. We are excited by the opportunity this presents to the Streatham community.”

The Crescent will offer twice the available space that is currently in place, offering much more flexibility to residents with learning disabilities in Lambeth along with more personalised support.

Gianluca Zucchelli, Head of Service at Certitude said:

“We have been working with Lambeth Borough, Lambeth Walk day centre, the charity Rathbone and Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, in consultation with people and families using Lambeth learning disability services, to create state-of-the-art services in a purposed-built environment in the heart of Streatham. The Crescent will offer different things to different people from supported living flats to a short break service. Thanks to high quality support and service design people will have the opportunity to learn new skills, become more independent and flourish. The Crescent will be open and connected to the local neighbourhood through a shop, a community space and a spacious and inclusive café”.

Rathbone, who support adults with learning disabilities and will be managing the café, have decided on the name ‘The Hive’. This new café will not only provide local residents and users of the Crescent with a bustling and welcoming space to enjoy but it will also provide employment opportunities to adults with learning disabilities.
