A large Victorian home in South Bermondsey
Overview
We provide supported living accommodation and support for men with a mental health diagnosis and offending histories who pose, or have posed, risks to others where that risk is usually related to their diagnosis. Our aim is to support each person in their recovery journey and to maintain and increase their independence. The team provides support from 9am to 9pm daily. All support is tailored around the person, with our staff adapting their skills and training to meet each person’s needs and goals. The property This large Victorian house for nine people is set on a busy main road in South Bermondsey.
The house has 3 floors:
Ground floor - a spacious lounge, kitchen diner with access to a large garden, laundry room and staff office. There are three bedrooms with a shared bathroom and separate toilet.
First floor - four bedrooms with two shared bathrooms, two toilets and two kitchens.
Second floor - two bedrooms, a bathroom, separate toilet and a kitchen.
All rooms are fitted with Wi-Fi and an aerial for Freeview or satellite TV.
The team are caring and dedicated and each one of them brings their own personality and expertise to the support they provide. They share their interests in music, cooking and reading and have introduced the men to a variety of music genres and artists. They hold cooking sessions on regular basis which incorporate meal planning, buying ingredients and budgeting.
Living here
The house is very homely and the men living here enjoy planning movie nights, cooking meals together, sharing takeaways and organising BBQs. Each person has different interests including eating out, swimming, sightseeing in different cities, playing computer games, visiting theme parks, cooking, playing and listening to music, and the team support people with this. People are supported to seek and/or maintain employment, with some current residents working in paid/ voluntary capacity. We support people with their CV, searching for jobs online and accessing the local job centre.
Local area
The house is in South Bermondsey and has easy access to buses and trains. It is 10-minute walk to Bermondsey underground station on the Jubilee Line. A five-minute walk takes you to Southwark Park, Seven Islands Leisure Centre with a swimming pool and Surrey Quays Shopping Centre with an array of shops, restaurants and cafes. North Greenwich and Oxford Street are accessible via local bus routes. Westfield Shopping Centre is also a short tube ride away.
