Overview

The support provided here is supported living for people with a learning disability and/or autism. We aim to support people to maintain and increase their independence. The team provides 24-hour support. All support is tailored around the individual, with the team adapting their skills and training to meet each person’s needs and goals.

The Property

This large five bedroom semi-detached house in leafy North Harrow has two floors, large communal areas and a garden.
The communal areas on the ground floor are:

  • a large well-furnished living room with TV and direct access to the garden
  • a dining room that seats eight people
  • a large kitchen (where the radio is usually on!)
  • a laundry room
  • two toilets, one of which is wheelchair accessible
  • a wheelchair accessible shower room (with an additional bathroom on the first
    floor)

There are two bedrooms on the ground floor and three on the first floor. All rooms contain a sink, have wifi access and an aerial for Freeview or satellite TV.

There is a good-sized garden at the back of the house, which has some very tasty apple and plum trees. There is a ramp from the living room to the garden making it accessible for wheelchairs.

Living Here

The house is very homely. The bright and colourful living room was decorated by the people who live here. It has a communal TV where we hold movie nights or watch big sporting events, like the Olympics or football.

We celebrate all occasions, from birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas and new year to summertime and sunshine! Our party planner is regularly updated and friends and family often join in.

Everybody has different interests, from playing music and doing puzzles, to ordering takeaway and going to football matches. Each person has their own house key and a key to their bedroom.

At weekly house meetings we plan our week ahead, and have a big day out at least once a month. We went to Mallorca in 2019 and plan to go away again in 2021.

The team are caring and dedicated and each one of them brings their own personality and expertise to the support they provide. They are all advocates for the people they support and work to improve people’s quality of life, whether that’s involving everyone in parties, teaching people Makaton or going to Southend for fish and chips and ice-cream!

Local Area

The house is in North Harrow and has easy access to buses and trains. It takes about 10 minutes by bus to get to the town centre, where there are plenty of shops, pubs, cafes and a cinema.
About 15 minutes away there is a leisure centre with a gym, swimming pool and other leisure activities.
